Diam

Diam. I am. DIAM

Welcome to the portal that publicly exposes the clever, innovative thinkers of the (mainly) Australian and New Zealand wine industries for what they really are; clever, and innovative. Here you will find all those who have adopted the DIAM cork as their closure of choice, or who are currently conducting internal trials for its prospective future use.

But, what is DIAM?

DIAM is short for DIAMANT and refers to an exclusive, patented process that treats natural cork particles with supercritical carbon dioxide to render the composite product void of TCA taint. The process and ideology is not dissimilar to the techniques used for extraction of caffiene from coffee. Special, miniature, synthetic spheres are used to form the cork conglomerate, further adding to the closure’s structural integrity. Unlike natural cork, DIAM corks will always be consistently identical (thus no oxidation issues) and, according to its manufacturers, 100% free of TCA cork taint.

In other words, the answer to all our prayers.

I’ve had some people scoff at the use of these closures, claiming that they would never put faith in some plastic and glue concoction (a crude and false simplification). I smile. It would seem that they’ve been much happier dealing with a piece of tree bark.

Below is a list - kept as up to date as possible - of wineries currently using DIAM, itemised by country, with the focus on Australia and New Zealand. If you have any updates, or information you wish to share, please contact Graham or Max.
